Twelve seems to be our magic number for April. This week, again, we had twelve, including one new player. My brother, Jack drew Bob Williams as his opponent while I faced Diane in a battle that took at least ninety minutes. Z chastised us for our slow play. The brothers Harrell were eliminated in the first round. While I don't like this trend, I draw comfort from my esteemed champion caliber collegues, Malcolm, Ernie and Roy, who were also defeated in round one.
Roy and Rich played with the latter winning and facing Z in round two after he took care of Walter. Cem got past Ernie and moved on to face Malcom's nemisis, Shareef who was eventually eliminated by one of the winners, Cem who beat Z after Z defeated Rich.
Lady Di and Bob faced off in round two while Z and Cem battled. Diane squeeked past Bob in a match that reached 6-6 before she finally won. Cem beat Z, and then Diane and Cem split this weeks tournament prize money.
No consolation tournament was held this week. Let's keep trying to recruit new members to spur interest in this great game.

Twelve fine players showed up this week to play in a spirited tournament in which six of us were eliminated in the first round. I wont mention any names, but let's just say that I was one of the players who went home early. Bob Black made short order of me while Rich, Diane, and Z also moved on. Congratulations to Diane and Rich who finally split the weekly prize.
No consolation tournament was held this week. I distributed a hand-out with instructions concerning the new Dallas Backgammon League email accounts which are now included as a benifit in the paid annual dues. If anyone needs additional help, you know how to reach me. Rich prepared a hand-out which includes the rules of Backgammon for anyone who needs a refresher course. He had a few left over if anyone wants one.
We were hoping
for a few new players as a result of Ernie's efforts with the Meet-up
folks, but those who promised to come, didn't for whatever reason.
Maybe next week. Let's keep trying to recruit new members to spur
interest in this great game.

Eleven players participated in this weeks tournament which was preceeded by chouette play and a meeting called by Z and Ernie McCombs. Discussion about Dallas Backgammon League growth plans, this new web site, and Dallas Backgammon Meetup possible participation in our tournaments. Ernie emailed 28 Dallas Backgammon Meetup members and received 2 responses within 45 minutes. He brought to our attention the growing interest, and our responsibilities to promote this great game. Malcolm has graciously funded the new site while I have been designing and editing both this one and the future one: DallasBackgammonLeague.com.
Second Round winners in the tournament were Malcolm, Ernie, Joe, Rich, Cem, Betty, Curtis, and Z. Third round winners were Malcolm, Rich, Cem, and Z who won his match as did Malcolm. Due to the late hour, Malcolm and Z split the weekly prize money.
The consolation tournament had a field of four players with Betty and Joe splitting the prize money.
Everyone had a good time and much was accomplished during the meeting. Our goal is to encourage interested people to come to the weekly events and join our organization. Ernie and Rich both pointed to the fact that we must invite new people and welcome them when they do come. Ernie suggested the we each call at least one person that we know, invite them, and follow up. As we are all aware, follow-up after the sale is more important than the sale itself.
